Tiga 1.0.2 widget fix for WordPress 2.2

This website utilizes the wonderful Tiga 1.0.2 theme, which works great under WordPress 2.1.3. However, when I upgraded the site to WordPress 2.2 (which now has built-in widget functionality), it quickly became clear that the widget functionality was not working properly under the Tiga 1.0.2 theme. Although you can set up your widgets, Tiga 1.0.2 doesn’t realize you’ve changed from the default, and always uses the default set of widgets instead.

After mucking through a bunch of css and php code, I was able to fix the issue. Since Tiga is one of the more popular themes out there, I’m making this solution publicly available.

Download the Tiga 1.0.2 widget fix for WordPress 2.2 *(see note at bottom of post).

Installation is easy. Just copy the sidebar.php file over the existing one in your tiga-06 theme folder.

Happy blogging.

Edit: General WordPress/Tiga questions not specifically related to this fix are best posted in the forum, where I am more likely to see them. I am happy to try and answer any questions you may have.

* Important note: I just released a patch for the Tiga theme under WordPress 2.3. It should be backwards compatible with 2.2 as well.

So, please pardon my ignorance here, but can you help me understand how we got from "Structure of a Program" (previous lesson) to "widgets" (this lesson) to "Comments" (next lesson). Does widgets have anything to do with C++ or was it just an aside? Ya lost me here :)

    Thanks so much!

I have Tiga Theme 06 for some reason; my widgets don't work at all.
Can some one help me, I had to edit everything in the code becasue i could not get the widgets to work.
I'm trying to add RSs. Need help with getting Widgets to work

  • Very cool comment editor time clock. How did you do that?

  • I'm glad I found this blog. I was frustrated with Tiga not accepting widgets. I've used it for more than a year now, and I switched to WordPress MU. Your fix worked perfectly.

I don't know about the css file though, because I've never had any problems with it. I edit the file and my changes show up. Now I'm wondering what results I'll get when I edit the style.php. Inquiring minds want to know.

  • I am SOOOOOO greatful for stumbling upon this site. I have been using the Tiga 1.01 theme for my blog about the island of Nevis for about 2 years now. I kept going back to Shamzular (sp?) site but never found anything new. This site helped my solve at least one of my problems, the style.css and the style.php debaucle. I thought I was losing all of my marbles changing stuff in the style.css file with no luck at all.

Now I hope I can figure out how to add the Configurable Tag Cloud v4.5 plugin in my widgets category, which has never worked. I have always had to add manually.

Thanks to all here for the great tips and help!

  • You were a lifesaver! Thank you for providing this patch!
